Monthly meeting June 15, 2020

# CALL TO ORDER

Janet Keough called the board meeting to order on June 15, 2020 via teleconferencing at 6:30 pm. Board members present were supervisors Janet Keough, Dick Dillon, and Gary Mantay, treasurer Ray Barnes, and Clerk Linda Britton. Also present were Rory Blazevic, Rod Saline, and Mike Siers. Those present repeated the pledge to the flag.

# MINUTES/DISBURSEMENTS

Dick Dillon made a motion, second by Gary Mantay to approve the amended May minutes. Motion carried. Motion by Gary Mantay, second by Dick Dillon to transfer $1,486.65 to the checking account to pay the monthly disbursements. Motion carried. The monthly disbursements totaling $1,486.62 were paid with check numbers 8058 to 8066. Supervisors voted Janet Keough yea, Dick Dillon yea, and Gary Mantay yea to pay the amount. Motion carried. The township received receipts totaling $122.21 and disbursements totaling $1,977.49 were paid leaving a bank statement balance on May 31, 2020 of $159,294.62.

# COMMENTS FROM CLERK OR TREASURER

Clerk Linda Britton reports we received $544.60 from the state as reimbursement for the presidential primary expenses. She sent off signed papers for the ballot counter with hopes that it will arrive within a month.
Treasurer Ray Barnes reported he will be inclosing township membership cards with checks this month.

# CORRESPONDENCE

MAT sent membership cards for board members. An email was received from St. Louis County concerning chloride for Briar Lake Drive but the board is not interested.

# FIRE DEPARTMENT

Chief Rory Blazevic reports all is quiet with the department with no training or meetings because of the corid-19. He has received no updates on the new truck.

# MAINTENANCE

Dick Dillon reports he has spoken with Electric Electric concerning the job of moving the generator and was told the job is on their list.

# ROAD

Gary Mantay reports all is fine with the road.

# RECYCLING

Janet Keough reports she is waiting for the grant approval form to come and then the operating grant money will be sent to us.

# WEB PAGE

Mike Siers reports he is making the site easy to use for updates. He wants the board to decide how much of the old minutes we would like to be put on the site.

# COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE

Rod Saline reports they have done a lot of work on their plan with special thanks to Mike Siers and Bruce Olsen. Motion by Dick Dillon, second by Gary Mantay to accept the report as presented but not approve the plan until the board is able to go over each part. Motion carried. As it stands now Janet Keough would take care of recycling, the town board section headed by the clerk and the fire department headed by Rory Blazevic. The board will make more decisions on how things will be done on the web site at the July meeting.

# BROADBAND

Janet Keough reports CLP is working on a grant proposal on the federal level and state level as well as IRRRB. Motion by Dick Dillon, second by Gary Mantay to adopt the joint powers agreement with CVI. Motion carried.

# UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Motion by Dick Dillon, second by Gary Mantay to put the job listing for clerk, treasurer and weed inspector in the Duluth paper. Motion carried.

# NEW BUSINESS

Gary Mantay reports he will be unable to continue with the lawn work at the town hall. Dick Dillon and Gary Mantay will continue to do the work until a new person is hired. Clerk Linda Britton will write up an ad for the web site about the lawn care work and also put up signs on the township boards.

Motion by Dick Dillon, second by Gary Mantay to approve Linda Britton, Sue Forbragd, Gary Mantay, and Dick Dillon as election judges for the primary on August 11 from 6:30 am to 8 pm. Gary and Dick will split the day so each can find out how the election goes. Motion carried.

Janet Keough reports the board must have a preparedness plan before the town hall can be used again. She reports there is an example on the MAT website for Linda to use to prepare the plan for board approval. In order for the town hall to be used for monthly meetings we need a plan on how to set up for meetings. We are limited to ten guests unless we use the fire hall and then we would be able to have more guests. Sue Forbragd will do disinfecting before and after the meetings.

# MONTHLY DUTIES

Dick and Gary will do the lawn care until a new person is hired. Jan purchase disinfecting stuff. Linda works on the preparedness plan and how the primary will be done.

# CLOSING

The next meeting will be July 20, 6:30 pm at the town hall. Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:37 pm.
