# CALL TO ORDER
Chair Dick Dillon called the monthly meeting to order at the North Star Town Hall on December 16, 2019 at 6:30 pm. Board members present were supervisors Dick Dillon, Janet Keough, and Gary Mantay, treasurer Ray Barnes, and clerk Linda Britton. Also present were guests Marv and Sue Forbragd, and Bill Taft. Those present repeated the pledge to the flag.
Motion by Janet Keough, second by Gary Mantay to approve the November board minutes. Motion carried. Motion by Dick Dillon, second by Gary Mantay to approve the transfer $69,415.72 to the regular checking account to pay the monthly disbursements. Motion carried by a vote of Janet Keough yea, Dick Dillon yea, and Gary Mantay yea.
# COMMENTS FROM THE TREASURER
Treasurer Ray Barnes reports he has been speaking with someone who may be interested in becoming the treasurer when he retires and wondered if the board is okay with that. Board members suggested Ray speak to this person and invite him/her to attend a board meeting so they will be able to meet him/her. Ray Barnes also would like the okay to start an email account for the office of treasurer. The board members agreed to this.
The MATT Association sent statements listing the Association’s financial position. An email was received from the Duluth School Board informing us of a combined voting place should there be a need due to an election. North star Township would be voting at Lakewood if it becomes necessary.
# FIRE DEPARTMENT
Assistant Gary Mantay reports the chassis for the new fire truck is at the shop and the check for the payment will go out in the mail tomorrow. The department will be touring the 911 station this month.
Dick Dillon reports all is well in the building. He shoveled around the generator and packed snow over the wire connector to maybe keep it connected to the building.
Janet Keough reports all is well with the shed.
Gary Mantay reports the road is white and slippery.
# UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Clerk Linda Britton reports she spoke with someone in planning and zoning and gave the information to Dick Dillon so he can look into zoning in the township.
Ray Barnes gave the board the final weed report from Deborah Pomroy for 2019.
# NEW BUSINESS
Clerk Linda Britton reports she and Sue Forbragd attended a training on the changes for the 2020 presidential primary election. At that time she spoke with an election representative concerning a grant application to purchase a ballet counter. They are priced at about $5,300 and the grant will pay for half. Gary Mantay offered a resolution, supported by Dick Dillon to give Clerk Linda Britton the right to apply for the grant to purchase election equipment for the township. Upon a roll call vote Dick Dillon yea, Janet Keough yea, and Gary Mantay yea with the nay vote being zero the resolution was passed. The final decision on a purchase will be made when the grant awards are announced. Motion by Dick Dillon, second by Janet Keough to change the meetings for the next two months. The new meeting dates are January 22 at 6:30 pm and February 19th at 6:30 pm. Motion carried. Clerk Linda Britton will post the new meeting dates.
